Discover Isfahani Red Ithmid, a rare red kohl named for the historic Persian city of Isfahan, where kohl has been treasured for generations.
Isfahani Ithmid is a lighter red stone, ground into an ultra-fine, silky powder with a soft burgundy-brown tone. It is a single-ingredient kohl with no fillers, no additives, and nothing synthetic. It is lab tested and lead-free, so you can enjoy a traditional practice with confidence.
Its fine, smooth grind gives a comfortable feel along the waterline, making it a favorite for nightly Sunnah use and for anyone who prefers a gentler kohl. During the day, it gives a warm, subtle definition that reads more natural than black. Each 3ml bottle lasts up to a full year with daily use.
Isfahani Red vs Black Ithmid
- Both are genuine Ithmid and carry the same Sunnah tradition
- Isfahani Red is lighter, finer, and smoother, with a soft burgundy-brown tint for a warm, understated look
- Black gives a deeper, smoky charcoal definition
- Not sure which to choose? Many customers keep both: red for nightly use, black for bolder definition

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Q: What is Ithmid kohl, and how is it different from other types of kohl?
A: Ithmid kohl, also called Arabic kohl, is made from a special stone found in regions like Morocco, Isfahan, and the Levant. It’s valued for its purity and unique health benefits, especially for eye care. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said, “The best of your kohl is Ithmid, for it makes the vision clear and strengthens the growth of hair.” (Sunan Ibn Majah 3497). Unlike other types, Ithmid is known for strengthening eyesight, promoting lash growth, and protecting the eyes naturally.
-
Q: How does Ithmid kohl benefit the eyes?
A: Ithmid kohl has been recommended for its therapeutic benefits in Islamic tradition, especially for eye health. It strengthens vision, treats eye cloudiness, reduces dryness, and protects against microbes and dirt. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) applied it regularly, particularly before sleep, due to its benefits in clarifying vision and preserving eye health.
-
Q: Can Ithmid kohl help with eyelash growth?
A: Yes, Ithmid kohl is known to encourage thicker, longer eyelashes. It contains natural compounds that stimulate the hair follicles around the eyes. As narrated in Hadith, “The best of your kohl is Ithmid… and it makes the hair grow.” (Sunan Abu Dawood 3878). By applying Ithmid kohl, you can benefit from its unique properties that promote healthier lash growth.
-
Q: Is this kohl suitable for sensitive eyes or people with eye allergies?
A: Ithmid kohl has traditionally been used to calm and treat eye irritations, dryness, and allergies, thanks to its natural anti-inflammatory properties. Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) also described kohl’s healing effects on eye ulcers and irritation. However, if you have specific sensitivities, it's always best to consult a healthcare provider before use.
-
Q: Does Ithmid kohl have other health benefits?
A: Ithmid kohl is beneficial beyond the eyes. It has been historically used to stop internal eye bleeding, aid in healing eye injuries, and even stimulate hair follicle health, potentially addressing non-hereditary baldness. This aligns with traditional uses noted in Islamic texts, where it is valued for its restorative and purifying effects.
-
Q: How can I be sure this kohl is authentic?
A: Authentic Ithmid kohl is distinctive due to its reddish-black color and origin. Our kohl is sourced directly from Morocco, following traditional methods of grinding and processing to maintain purity. High-quality Ithmid kohl, as described by scholars, is finely ground, glimmers when applied, and is free of impurities, ensuring its authenticity.
